Please tell us about yourself, your business, and what brings/brought you to Amherst

We are Maritime Tartan Company and we started as a little handmade tartan business in Halifax before deciding to move to Amherst for a slower paced lifestyle. We opened our store in 2022 and the business has grown in leaps and bounds as we are now the largest independent retailer for East Coast Lifestyle.

What aspect of running a business do you find the most fulfilling or enjoyable?

We love meeting people -- from tourists to amazing town locals, you hear all sorts of interesting stories and learn something new every day.

What inspires you about the community?

The community's love of nature and outdoor activity mixed with its love for arts of all sorts. You can't go anywhere without seeing something artistic.

What aspects of the community have you found the most welcoming?

Amherst loves to support local and tries its best to rally around those who might be facing hardship. It's great to know that someone always has your back when you need it!

What's something you'd like the community to know about your business that they may not already know?

That we moved! We were located on Victoria Street but we can now be found at 28 Church Street.
